Christmas in Leicester Square guide

Santa called – he’s added another date to his schedule: Christmas in Leicester Square, the capital’s latest Crimbo destination for 2017. It's back for the second year running, so expect sacks of festive fun and a twinkly, goodtime atmosphere. 'The ‘square’ in Leicester Square is home to a grotto, traditional Christmas market, featuring more than 25 food, drink and christmas gift stalls, and a vintage Spiegeltent – a velvety, wooden venue home to a stocked programme of Christmas shows brought to you from the Underbelly team. Events include performances from Fascinating Aida, Cabaret at Christmas, Al Murray, The Showtoppers Christmas a Christmas Baby Disco Dance Hall for the under fives and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Medicine show.

Christmas in Leicester Square is back for the second year in 2017. It'll run from Friday November 10 2017 to Saturday January 6 2018.

Where is Christmas in Leicester Square?

Smack in the middle of central London's Leicester Square. The nearest tube stations are Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, the nearest rail station is Charing Cross.

Is there an entry fee?

Entry to Christmas in Leicester Square is free, but tickets must be bought for selected events, including Santa's Grotto and some performances.

11 injured following crash between minibus and car near Thetford

Investigations are continuing after eleven people were injured in a serious crash between a minibus and a car last night. The collision happened on the A134 at Two Mile Bottom between Thetford and Mundford at around 6.40pm. The casualties were taken to Addenbrooke's and West Suffolk hospital. Six of those injured sustained serious injuries. The crash involved a white Renault Minibus and a black BMW. 11 persons were injured and they were taken to Addenbrookes Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital for treatment. There were six persons that sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. Police are keen to locate the driver of a lorry who may be a witness to the collision. The road was closed while officers carried out enquiries and was reopened just after on 24th November. ‘I was woken up by screaming’: Couple’s shock as fire guts neighbour’s house on New Year’s Eve

A couple from Shipdham have spoken of their shock after a neighbour’s house was gutted by fire in the early hours of New Year’s Eve. Hannah Matthews and her partner Craig Barker were called into action when their neighbour’s house in Bradenham Road caught fire. Miss Matthews, 21, said: “I was woken up by someone screaming.” And her partner, Mr Barker, 22, said: “We realised something wasn’t right after 30 seconds. “Smoke was billowing over the back of the house and flames were licking the sides. Boy killed in ‘deliberate’ hit and run named as Harley Watson, 12

This is the first picture of a 12-year-old by who was killed when a car ploughed into a group of children in a "deliberate" hit-and-run outside a school. Heartbroken friends are paying tribute to the boy, named locally as Harley Watson, following Monday afternoon's suspected murder near Debden Park High School in Loughton, Essex. Two 15-year-old boys, a 13-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and the 23-year-old woman were injured when, according to witnesses, a car mounted the kerb and sent Harley "into the air" before driving off. Finsbury Park murder: First picture of Iuliana Tudos, 22, who was found dead in park after attack on Christmas Eve

This is the first picture of a barmaid found murdered in a north London park after she was stabbed and beaten on Christmas Eve. The body of Iuliana Tudos, 22, was found in an outbuilding close to a sports pitch in Finsbury Park on Wednesday afternoon, police said. Ms Tudos, who police said was of Russian and Greek origin, had last been seen by friends at around 8pm on December 24 when she headed for a bus home from Camden. She was due to meet them at a friend's home in Enfield, north-east London, later that evening before spending Christmas Day there, but never arrived. Murder arrest after man stabbed to death in east London

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody. A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 20s was stabbed to death in east London. Police were called shortly after 2pm on Thursday to reports of a stabbing in Clarence Mews, Hackney. The man was found seriously injured and died at the scene around half an hour later, despite the best efforts of emergency services. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody at a north London police station. The victim has not yet been identified and police are working to inform his family.

long-awaited WHSmith in Dereham opens Family are proud

WHSmith Local has opened its doors to shoppers and is already proving popular with customers in the run up to Christmas. The store, at 36 High Street in the former William Hill betting shop, had been empty for some time but plans were first submitted in July for change of use for the new business. It was immediately welcomed by the majority of townsfolk and approved by the district council. After a slight delay in getting the right signage for the front the store opened and is being run by four members of the same family. Philip and Maria Stow and their sons Chris and James will work full time in the shop, which will be open seven days a week. The family moved up from Kent a year ago and after a good look around Norfolk they settled on Dereham. Mrs Stow has many years of experience in retail and elder son Chris has also worked for WHSmith before. Sophia Airey, 29, from Edinburgh, was last seen on Wednesday with her car discovered the next day A frantic search involving the Coastguard and an emergency helicopter was launched along the waterfront.
